Hampshire and West Sussex Sports and Events Photographers
I am dedicated to providing high quality sports and events photography throughout the UK. I am based on the border between Hampshire and West Sussex. I have been working as an events photographer for nearly ten years and cover a variety, including golf, chaity days, running (marathons, 10Ks), triathlon, cycling, equestrian (show jumping, cross country, dressage, showing, One Day Eventing, Pony Club, endurance rides) and some water sports events. I also cover some black tie and corporate events and occasionally print on site (instant photos).
Capturing individual competitors and the overall atmosphere of each event, I use state of the art professional equipment from Nikon, Mitsubishi and Elinchrom, to name a few key suppliers.
If you are organising an event and would like to discuss my possible involvement, please just get in touch. There is typically no charge to the event organiser and there can be real benefits and added value in return. Let me worry about getting great photos, while you concern yourself with running your event. I work alone or with a trusted buddy or two and can cover quite large scale, mass participation events. The rest of this page is dedicated to ‘frequently asked questions’ for all participants to these events. There is further useful information in some other pages of my website.
FAQs:
How long until photos go onto the website? Depending on the actual event, my workflow and amount of identification required, I aim to get images on-line within 24hours of each event. Participants may also pre register to see their images and I will email to let those people know when their photos are live, as soon as they are ready. The photos will typically stay on the website for just two months and photos purchased within the first month of the date of each event will receive a 10% discount at the checkout.
How do I search for my photos on the website? Just click the ‘order on line’ tab on the left of our website and this will take you to a list of recent events, including your event. Each event will vary, but typically you’ll be able to view your photos by searching via your race number, or class, category, or time. The header page for each event will give you some more specific photo search guidance and some sections are typically provided for unidentifiable (race numbers not people) Male or Female photos. You may need to adjust your browser settings to 'accept cookies' or allow 'pop ups' to allow you to click on each event link, or to view my blog.
How long do photos take to arrive? Prints typically take up to 14 days as I use a top UK ‘pro lab’ who produce high quality prints with unsurpassed longevity. Digital files take around 48 hours, subject to my availability at the time of order and are typically emailed to the recipient at the email address given (used) at the time of each order.
How do I order photos on line? Photos can be ordered securely on line via the checkout ‘cart’ system on my website. Payments can be made via credit or debit card, or else the order form may be printed out and a copy sent to my postal address along with a cheque for the full amount, made payable to: Martin Lewis. There is a £1 flat rate charge on all orders for processing and delivery for all UK orders. Quotations can be provided for those wishing to order photos from abroad. I use PayPal to receive on-line card payments and at the moment cannot receive such payments over the phone.
What is your approach to my privacy? You will need to give me your postal address and contact details on your order, but no credit or debit card details are supplied directly to me whatsoever. I will not use or part with your information, aside from dealing solely with the transaction you have entered into with me.
What is a 3,000 x 2,000 digital file? A 3,000 x 2,000 pixel digital file is a high resolution JPG that will allow large sized prints to be produced by the recipient, for your own personal (non-commercial) use. Naturally, the file can be copied, cropped, manipulated and stored in a number of places. Files can be used to make prints, display images, put onto photo products like mugs, T-shirts, key fobs, magnets, books or albums, mouse mats and so on. For this reason, they carry a slight premium over a single loose print price and are typically sent to the customer via email.
What if I don’t want my images on your website? So long as you can identify yourself as a sole subject in a photo (some running images might include groups for example) please just let me know which image references are applicable and we may remove them from the website.
Why do the images look a little dark or grainy on my screen? The brightness, colour balance, contrast, viewing angle and size ratio will vary from screen to screen. My prints are produced to a high standard and will be correctly exposed and always checked by hand before mailing out. I only use state of the art professional cameras and equipment.
Do you retain copyright on the images you sell? YES – In law the copyright remains with the photographer. When I sell a print or digital file, I am giving each customer a license to use the image for their personal use. Prints should never be scanned and copied without the photographers’ permission. Whereas, digital files that have been purchased from me can be reprinted as many times as wanted – by the customer. However, no images can be used for commercial or promotional reasons, without my prior consent. Please get in contact to discuss any such requests or requirements.
What if I am not happy with the prints I receive? Within reason - I will offer a full ‘no quibble’ refund within 14 days of the photos being sent out, typically upon return of the photo. If the wrong photo is sent, a photo is damaged or lost in the post I will usually re-send a further copy after a suitable period of time has elapsed.
